Questions about fruit & vegetable powders
Can't see your question? Get in touch and we'll help.
How much powder should I use?
Start with one or two teaspoons in a smoothie, yoghurt or bowl of porridge and adjust to taste. Strongly flavoured powders such as noni, baobab and acerola go further, so begin with less.
Which powders are best for natural colour?
Pitaya gives bright pink, beetroot a deep red, blueberry, acai and maqui a rich purple, and spinach or kale a fresh green.
Can I bake with fruit and vegetable powders?
Yes. Lucuma, banana, beetroot and the berry powders all work well in cakes, muffins, pancakes and cookies, though very bright colours can soften during long baking.
What does lucuma taste like?
Lucuma has a gentle caramel, maple and butterscotch flavour. It is a favourite ice cream flavour in Peru and is lovely in smoothies, porridge and desserts.
Is maca a fruit?
No, maca is a root vegetable from the Andes, related to radish and turnip, which is dried and ground into powder. It has a malty, nutty taste that suits milkshakes, hot chocolate and baking.
Why has my powder gone lumpy?
Fruit powders absorb moisture from the air, especially once opened. Keep the pouch sealed and break up any lumps with a fork before use.
