Description
What are Kohlrabi Sprouting Seeds?
Organic Kohlrabi Sprouting Seeds are certified organic kohlrabi seeds for growing sweet, mildly spicy sprouts in a jar in 4–5 days, or microgreens on a tray in 8–12 days.
Highlights
- Certified organic kohlrabi seed
- Two ways to grow: jar sprouts (4–5 days) or microgreens on a tray (8–12 days)
- Sweet, mildly spicy flavour, a relative of cabbage and broccoli
- Grows all year on a windowsill
How to use
How to grow Kohlrabi Sprouting Seeds
- Soak 2 tablespoons of seed per 1-litre jar in plenty of cool water for 6–8 hours.
- Drain well and keep the jar at room temperature, out of direct sun, tilted so excess water runs out.
- Rinse and drain 2–3 times a day. Gently loosen the sprouts as they fill the jar so air can reach the middle.
- Green up: on the last day, move the jar into indirect light so the little leaves turn green.
- Harvest after 4–5 days, when the sprouts are 2.5–4cm long with small green leaves. Give them a final rinse, drain very well and keep them in the fridge, using within 2–3 days.
How to grow kohlrabi microgreens on a tray (8–12 days)
- Prepare a shallow tray with a damp hemp or coir mat, a few layers of kitchen paper or 1–2cm of moist seed compost.
- Sow: There's no need to soak the seed first. Scatter the seed thinly and evenly, using about 15–20g for a standard 25 × 50cm tray or 4–5g for a 15 × 20cm tray.
- Cover for 2–3 days to keep the seeds dark and moist while they germinate. Mist them if the surface starts to dry.
- Grow on in bright light, watering from below so the base stays damp but not soggy.
- Cut just above the base once the first pair of leaves has opened, usually after 8–12 days.
Quality & Sourcing: Nature's Root selects high-quality organic seed and packs it carefully to maintain freshness. Batches are checked for quality and handled in line with good manufacturing practices.
Allergens & Storage: Packed in a facility that handles nuts and sesame. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Reseal after opening.
Food safety: The Food Standards Agency advises cooking sprouted seeds until they're steaming hot all the way through before eating, unless they're sold as ready to eat. Home-grown sprouts aren't, so cook them first, and keep them in the fridge once harvested.

You might also like
How long do kohlrabi sprouts take?
About 4–5 days in a jar, or 8–12 days as microgreens on a tray.
How much seed should I use?
About 2 tablespoons for a 1-litre jar, or 15–20g for a standard 25 × 50cm tray (4–5g for a 15 × 20cm tray).
Why have some seeds sprouted before others?
Kohlrabi can germinate a little unevenly. Keep rinsing (or keep the tray covered) for an extra day and the slower seeds usually catch up.
What do kohlrabi sprouts taste like?
Sweet and fresh with a mild peppery bite. Scatter them over soups, salads and sandwiches.
Should I cook sprouts before eating them?
Yes. The Food Standards Agency advises cooking sprouted seeds until they're steaming hot all the way through, unless they're sold as ready to eat. Home-grown sprouts aren't, so cook them before eating.
Is it suitable for vegans?
Yes.
How should I store the seeds?
Keep them sealed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, and reseal the pouch after opening.
