Description

What are Fenugreek Sprouting Seeds?

Organic Fenugreek Sprouting Seeds are certified organic fenugreek seeds, known as methi in India, for growing nutty, curry-scented sprouts in a jar in 3–5 days, or microgreens on a tray in 8–12 days.

Highlights

  • Certified organic fenugreek (methi) seed
  • Two ways to grow: jar sprouts (3–5 days) or microgreens on a tray (8–12 days)
  • Nutty, slightly bitter flavour with a warm curry aroma
  • Easy for beginners and grows all year on a windowsill
How to use

How to grow Fenugreek Sprouting Seeds

  1. Soak about 3 tablespoons of seed per 1-litre jar in plenty of cool water for 8–12 hours.
  2. Drain well and keep the jar at room temperature, out of direct sun, tilted so excess water runs out.
  3. Rinse and drain 2–3 times a day. Short sprouts taste best: the longer they grow, the more bitter they become.
  4. Harvest after 3–5 days, when the sprouts are 1–2cm long. Give them a final rinse, drain very well and keep them in the fridge, using within 2–3 days.

How to grow fenugreek microgreens on a tray (8–12 days)

  1. Prepare a shallow tray with a damp hemp or coir mat, a few layers of kitchen paper or 1–2cm of moist seed compost.
  2. Sow: Soak the seed for 6–8 hours first, then drain well. Scatter the seed thinly and evenly, using about 30–40g for a standard 25 × 50cm tray or 8–10g for a 15 × 20cm tray.
  3. Cover for 2–3 days to keep the seeds dark and moist while they germinate. Mist them if the surface starts to dry.
  4. Grow on in bright light, watering from below so the base stays damp but not soggy.
  5. Cut just above the base once the leaves have opened, usually after 8–12 days.

Quality & Sourcing: Nature's Root selects high-quality organic seed and packs it carefully to maintain freshness. Batches are checked for quality and handled in line with good manufacturing practices.

Allergens & Storage: Packed in a facility that handles nuts and sesame. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Reseal after opening.

Food safety: The Food Standards Agency advises cooking sprouted seeds until they're steaming hot all the way through before eating, unless they're sold as ready to eat. Home-grown sprouts aren't, so cook them first, and keep them in the fridge once harvested.

Questions before you choose

Can't see your question? Get in touch and we'll help.

How long do fenugreek sprouts take?

About 3–5 days in a jar, or 8–12 days as microgreens on a tray.

How much seed should I use?

About 3 tablespoons for a 1-litre jar, or 30–40g for a standard 25 × 50cm tray (8–10g for a 15 × 20cm tray).

Why do my sprouts taste bitter?

Fenugreek naturally has a bitter edge that gets stronger as the sprouts grow. Harvest them short, at 1–2cm, for a milder flavour.

How do I use fenugreek sprouts?

Stir them into curries and dals at the end of cooking, or add a few to salads and sandwiches for a warm, nutty note.

Should I cook sprouts before eating them?

Yes. The Food Standards Agency advises cooking sprouted seeds until they're steaming hot all the way through, unless they're sold as ready to eat. Home-grown sprouts aren't, so cook them before eating.

Is it suitable for vegans?

Yes.

How should I store the seeds?

Keep them sealed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, and reseal the pouch after opening.
