Description

What are 'Radish Mix' Sprouting Seeds?

Organic 'Radish Mix' Sprouting Seeds are a certified organic mix of radish seeds for growing peppery, spicy sprouts in a jar in 4–6 days, or microgreens on a tray in 6–10 days.

Highlights

  • Certified organic mix of radish seed
  • Two ways to grow: jar sprouts (4–6 days) or microgreens on a tray (6–10 days)
  • Peppery, spicy flavour
  • Easy for beginners and one of the fastest microgreens
How to use

How to grow 'Radish Mix' Sprouting Seeds

  1. Soak 2 tablespoons of seed per 1-litre jar in plenty of cool water for 6–8 hours.
  2. Drain well and keep the jar at room temperature, out of direct sun, tilted so excess water runs out.
  3. Rinse and drain 2–3 times a day. Gently loosen the sprouts as they fill the jar so air can reach the middle.
  4. Green up: on the last day, move the jar into indirect light so the little leaves turn green.
  5. Harvest after 4–6 days, when the sprouts are 2.5–5cm long with small green leaves. Give them a final rinse, drain very well and keep them in the fridge, using within 2–3 days.

How to grow radish microgreens on a tray (6–10 days)

  1. Prepare a shallow tray with a damp hemp or coir mat, a few layers of kitchen paper or 1–2cm of moist seed compost.
  2. Sow: There's no need to soak the seed first. Scatter the seed thinly and evenly, using about 20–30g for a standard 25 × 50cm tray or 5–7g for a 15 × 20cm tray.
  3. Cover for 2–3 days to keep the seeds dark and moist while they germinate. Mist them if the surface starts to dry.
  4. Grow on in bright light, watering from below so the base stays damp but not soggy.
  5. Cut just above the base once the first pair of leaves has opened, usually after 6–10 days.

Quality & Sourcing: Nature's Root selects high-quality organic seed and packs it carefully to maintain freshness. Batches are checked for quality and handled in line with good manufacturing practices.

Allergens & Storage: Packed in a facility that handles nuts and sesame. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Reseal after opening.

Food safety: The Food Standards Agency advises cooking sprouted seeds until they're steaming hot all the way through before eating, unless they're sold as ready to eat. Home-grown sprouts aren't, so cook them first, and keep them in the fridge once harvested.

Questions before you choose

Can't see your question? Get in touch and we'll help.

How long do radish sprouts take?

About 4–6 days in a jar, or 6–10 days as microgreens on a tray.

How much seed should I use?

About 2 tablespoons for a 1-litre jar, or 20–30g for a standard 25 × 50cm tray (5–7g for a 15 × 20cm tray).

Is the white fuzz on the roots mould?

Almost certainly not. Brassica sprouts grow fine root hairs that look fuzzy, especially just before a rinse. If the fuzz disappears when you rinse, it's root hairs; mould looks slimy and smells musty.

How do I use radish sprouts?

They add a peppery bite to sandwiches, wraps, tacos and salads. Add them just before serving.

Should I cook sprouts before eating them?

Yes. The Food Standards Agency advises cooking sprouted seeds until they're steaming hot all the way through, unless they're sold as ready to eat. Home-grown sprouts aren't, so cook them before eating.

Is it suitable for vegans?

Yes.

How should I store the seeds?

Keep them sealed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, and reseal the pouch after opening.
