Description

What are Pea Shoots Sprouting Seeds?

Organic Pea Shoots Sprouting Seeds are whole organic green peas for growing at home in two ways: as crunchy pea sprouts in a jar in just 2–3 days, or as leafy, sweet pea shoots in a tray of compost in 10–14 days.

Highlights

  • Certified organic whole green peas
  • Two ways to grow: jar sprouts (2–3 days) or pea shoots in compost (10–14 days)
  • Sweet, fresh pea flavour for salads, sandwiches and stir-fries
  • Easy for beginners and grows all year on a windowsill
How to use

How to grow Pea Shoots Sprouting Seeds

  1. Soak 3–4 tablespoons of peas in plenty of cool water for 8–12 hours.
  2. Drain well and keep the jar at room temperature, tilted so excess water runs out.
  3. Rinse and drain twice a day. Remove any peas that stay hard.
  4. Harvest after 2–3 days, when the roots are about the length of the pea. Give them a final rinse, drain well and keep in the fridge.

How to grow pea shoots in compost (10–14 days)

  1. Soak the peas for 8–12 hours. You can also pre-sprout them in a jar for a day so they start faster.
  2. Sow: spread them in a single, close layer over 2–3cm of moist seed compost in a shallow tray with drainage holes. Use about 200g for a standard 25 × 50cm tray, or around 60g for a 15 × 20cm tray.
  3. Cover for 2–3 days to keep them dark and moist while the roots take hold.
  4. Grow on in bright light, watering from below so the soil stays damp but not soggy.
  5. Cut the shoots just above the soil when they're 5–10cm tall, usually after 10–14 days.

Quality & Sourcing: Nature's Root selects high-quality organic seed and packs it carefully to maintain freshness. Batches are checked for quality and handled in line with good manufacturing practices.

Allergens & Storage: Packed in a facility that handles nuts and sesame. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Reseal after opening.

Food safety: The Food Standards Agency advises cooking sprouted seeds until they're steaming hot all the way through before eating, unless they're sold as ready to eat. Home-grown sprouts aren't, so cook them first, and keep them in the fridge once harvested.

Questions before you choose

Can't see your question? Get in touch and we'll help.

Can I grow these in a sprouting jar?

Yes. Soak the peas for 8–12 hours, then rinse and drain twice a day. They're ready as short, crunchy pea sprouts in 2–3 days.

How do I grow leafy pea shoots?

Soak the peas for 8–12 hours, spread them over a tray of moist compost and keep them covered for 2–3 days. Then move them into the light and cut the shoots when they're 5–10cm tall, usually after 10–14 days.

What's the difference between pea sprouts and pea shoots?

Pea sprouts are eaten after 2–3 days in a jar, with a short root. Pea shoots are grown on for 10–14 days in compost until they have green leaves and tendrils, then cut above the soil.

How many peas should I use?

About 3–4 tablespoons for a 1-litre jar, or roughly 200g for a standard 25 × 50cm seed tray (around 60g for a smaller 15 × 20cm tray).

Should I cook sprouts before eating them?

Yes. The Food Standards Agency advises cooking sprouted seeds until they're steaming hot all the way through, unless they're sold as ready to eat. Home-grown sprouts aren't, so cook them before eating.

Is it suitable for vegans?

Yes.

How should I store the seeds?

Keep them sealed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, and reseal the pouch after opening.
