Description
What are Mung Bean Sprouting Seeds?
Organic Mung Bean Sprouting Seeds are certified organic whole mung beans for growing crisp, juicy bean sprouts in a jar in 3–5 days, the same sprouts used in Chinese and South-East Asian cooking.
Highlights
- Certified organic whole mung beans
- Grows in a simple sprouting jar in 3–5 days
- Crisp, juicy white sprouts for stir-fries, noodles and soups
- Easy for beginners and grows all year on a worktop
How to use
How to grow Mung Bean Sprouting Seeds
- Soak about 4 tablespoons (around 60g) of beans per 1-litre jar in plenty of cool water for 8–12 hours.
- Drain well and keep the jar at room temperature, out of direct sun, tilted so excess water runs out.
- Rinse and drain 2–3 times a day. Use cool water and keep the jar somewhere dark for paler, sweeter sprouts. Remove any beans that stay hard.
- Harvest after 3–5 days, when the sprouts are 1–5cm long. Give them a final rinse, drain very well and keep them in the fridge, using within 2–3 days.
Quality & Sourcing: Nature's Root selects high-quality organic seed and packs it carefully to maintain freshness. Batches are checked for quality and handled in line with good manufacturing practices.
Allergens & Storage: Packed in a facility that handles nuts and sesame. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Reseal after opening.
Food safety: The Food Standards Agency advises cooking sprouted seeds until they're steaming hot all the way through before eating, unless they're sold as ready to eat. Home-grown sprouts aren't, so cook them first, and keep them in the fridge once harvested.

Why are my mung bean sprouts thinner than shop-bought ones?
Commercial sprouts are grown under weight in the dark. Home-grown sprouts are thinner but just as crunchy. Keeping the jar dark and well rinsed helps.
How long do mung bean sprouts take?
About 3–5 days from soaking, depending on how long you like them.
How many beans should I use?
About 4 tablespoons (around 60g) for a 1-litre jar. They grow to several times their size.
How do I use them?
They're a classic in stir-fries, pad thai, noodle soups and spring rolls. Add them at the end of cooking so they stay crisp.
Should I cook sprouts before eating them?
Yes. The Food Standards Agency advises cooking sprouted seeds until they're steaming hot all the way through, unless they're sold as ready to eat. Home-grown sprouts aren't, so cook them before eating.
Is it suitable for vegans?
Yes.
How should I store the seeds?
Keep them sealed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, and reseal the pouch after opening.
