How to Make a Lavender Matcha Latte (Plus a Cinnamon Version)
A lavender matcha latte is sweet, floral and a beautiful soft green, and it's easy to make at home. Here are two ways: a 30-second version using a ready-made sachet, and a from-scratch recipe with matcha and lavender powder. There's a cinnamon version too.
The quick way: use a latte mix
The GoMush® Lavender Matcha Latte Mix blends ceremonial grade matcha with lavender in single-serve sachets:
- Empty one sachet into a mug.
- Add a splash of hot (not boiling) water and whisk or froth until smooth.
- Top up with warm milk or oat milk.
From scratch: lavender matcha latte recipe
Ingredients (1 mug)
- 1 teaspoon matcha powder
- A small pinch (about ⅛ teaspoon) of lavender powder
- 30ml hot water, around 80°C (let the kettle stand for a few minutes after boiling)
- 200ml milk or oat milk
- 1–2 teaspoons honey, maple syrup or coconut sugar, to taste
Method
- Sift the matcha and lavender into a bowl or mug. This is the secret to a lump-free latte.
- Add the hot water and whisk in a zig-zag motion with a bamboo whisk or milk frother until smooth and frothy on top.
- Stir in your sweetener.
- Warm and froth the milk, then pour it over the matcha.
Iced lavender matcha latte
- Whisk the matcha, lavender and sweetener with 30ml of warm water until smooth.
- Fill a glass with ice and add 200ml of cold milk.
- Pour the matcha over the top for that layered look, then stir.
Cinnamon matcha latte
Swap the lavender for a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon powder and make it the same way. It's warmer and more comforting, great for autumn. Or use the ready-made GoMush® Cinnamon Matcha Latte Mix.
Tips for a better matcha latte
- Don't use boiling water. It makes matcha taste bitter. Aim for around 80°C.
- Go easy on lavender. A little adds a floral note; too much tastes soapy. Start with a pinch.
- Sift first. Matcha clumps easily, and sifting takes seconds.
- Oat milk froths well and has a natural sweetness that suits both flavours.
Good to know
Matcha is a green tea, so it naturally contains caffeine, and matcha lattes aren't recommended for children. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, take medication or have a health condition, speak to your GP or pharmacist first.
