How long do chickpea sprouts take?
About 2–3 days from soaking. They're best with short roots, 0.5–1cm long.
How many chickpeas should I use?
About 5 tablespoons (around 80g) for a 1-litre jar, as they double in size.
Why haven't all the chickpeas sprouted?
A few in every batch may not sprout. Pick out any that are still hard after two days so they don't spoil the rest.
How do I use sprouted chickpeas?
Roast them, add them to curries and stews, or cook and blend them into hummus.
Should I cook sprouts before eating them?
Yes. The Food Standards Agency advises cooking sprouted seeds until they're steaming hot all the way through, unless they're sold as ready to eat. Home-grown sprouts aren't, so cook them before eating.
Is it suitable for vegans?
Yes.
How should I store the seeds?
Keep them sealed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, and reseal the pouch after opening.
